Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a term used to describe the bowel diseases Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

Ulcerative colitis  affects only the inner lining of the colon, (large intestine).

Most common symptoms:

• Diarrhoea
• Cramping pains in the abdomen
• Tiredness and fatigue
• Feeling unwell
• Loss of appetite and weight loss
• Anaemia

With Crohn’s disease, inflammation can appear anywhere in the digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus.

Most common symptoms:

* Abdominal pain and diarrhoea
* Tiredness and fatigue
* Feeling unwell
* Mouth ulcers
* Loss of appetite and weight loss
* Anaemia
